How to Create Another Sim in The Sims 4 & Add It to Your Household?

how to create a sime and add it to your household

The more, the merrier is one rule that holds true for the Sims 4. The more Sims you add to your household, your game becomes more exciting. Most players start their playthrough with a single family or even a single Sim and decide to increase their household size organically. But what happens when you want to skip this step and add a custom-made Sim to your existing household? Today’s guide is about this, so join us as we demonstrate how to create another Sim and add it to your household.

You can add another Sim to your household either by importing it through the library or going into the “manage household.” menu. From there, you can edit your household size and add additional members to it (including pets, children, and supernatural creatures). You can import existing Sims from the world or create your own custom-made Sim and add it to your family.

Now that we’ve covered how to add another Sim to your existing household, it’s time to analyze it in more detail. If you’re interested in all the options the manage worlds menu provides, stay with us and keep reading!

Can you add more Sims to an existing household?

It’s possible to add more Sims to an existing household without much effort. As we’ve previously mentioned, you can add up to 8 Sims to one household (this limit can be increased with mods), and you can add just about anybody to your household, be it an already existing Sim or a newly created one.

There are several approaches to this, as you can add Sims through cheats, the library, and managing households. In the rest of this post, we’re going to explain all of the above-mentioned options in more detail.

Creating a new Sim and adding it to your existing household

Creating a brand new Sim and adding it to your household is not difficult. It’s easily accessible as long as you can find the “manage household” button. The manage household option allows you to merge households, add existing Sims, or create a brand new one. We’re going to focus on the latter option. If you want to create a new Sim and add it to your existing household, follow these steps:

  1. Load your game.
  2. Navigate to the household that you want to edit.
  3. Navigate to the manage household button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  4. Choose the “edit, add or remove a Sim from the household” option. The button for this option has a blue pencil icon.
  5. Choosing this option will lead straight to the CAS (Create-a-Sim) screen.
  6. From there, create your desired Sim and give it a name and traits.
  7. After you’re done with creating a Sim, click on the green checkmark button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  8. The next screen that appears will give you a brief overview of your current household, and you should see your newly created Sim as a part of it.

By following these steps, not only can you add a newly created Sim to your household, but you can also:

  • add a biological child in any stage of development
  • add supernatural Sims such as aliens, mermaids, and vampires
  • add pets
  • add Sims created via story

You can also modify relationships within the current household, although it is important to mention that this will not work for pre-existing Sims. You can modify relationships only between the Sims that you have created yourself.

How to add a Sim from the library to your current household?

If you already have a few Sims lying around in your library, you can “resurrect” them in the world at any time by adding them to your current household. This is done much in the same way as if we were to create a brand new Sim. To add a Sim from the library to your current household, follow these steps:

  1. Load the game.
  2. Navigate to the household you would like to modify
  3. Navigate to the “manage household” option.
  4. Choose the “edit, add or remove a Sim from the household” option.
  5. From there, you can add a Sim from your library by clicking on the “open gallery button” or pressing F4.
  6. Once your gallery has opened, choose the Sim you would like to place in your household and click on the “place household” button in the bottom right corner of the menu.
  7. Once your Sim is loaded, make your additional changes if you like and navigate to the green checkmark icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  8. This should be followed by a brief overview of your current household, and you should see your newly added Sim in it.

You can add multiple Sims, pets, and supernatural beings this way, and it works just like adding a brand-new Sim.

How to add Sims to your household with cheats?

If you want to add a pre-existing Sim from your world to your household, several options are at your disposal. You can befriend the Sim and ask it to move in, marry the Sim, or simply use the household manager once again to add it to your own household. The most straightforward way, however, is to simply use commands. To add an already existing Sim to your household with commands, follow these steps:

  1. First, enable the cheats in the game by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+C.
  2. Type “testingCheats true.”
  3. Approach the Sim you would like to add to your household and click on it while holding SHIFT.
  4. This should open a menu with various options, and one of them will be the “add to family” option.
  5. As soon as you’re done with the process, you will get immediate full control of the Sim in question, and you can do with it as you please.
