This means that the vast majority of mobile devices today can both participate in and host multiplayer game sessions in Terraria.

Yes, you can play multiplayer on Terraria mobile. The process is as easy (or complicated depending on how you look at it) as on PC and other multiplayer-supported devices.

You can play multiplayer on mobile on your local network, or you can join “online” mode where you will be matched with a random player.

There are some third-party programs that allow you to forward your games over the internet, so you’re not limited to your local connection. (Multiplayer Terraria Edition),

When playing Terraria multiplayer on mobile, only 8 players can join a single world.

You can also host games, as long as your device meets the minimum requirements which are 1 GB of RAM and a stable internet connection.

How do you play multiplayer in Terraria on a phone?

The process of playing multiplayer in Terraria depends on whether you’re playing on a local connection or an “online” connection.

While playing on your “local” mode, only devices connected to your specific local connection will be available to you.

If you decide to join the “online” world, you’re going to have to wait until a game has been found for you.

We’ve mentioned already third-party solutions that allow you to “forward” your games online, it’s important to note that none of these are officially developed by Terraria and might not work for you.

To play Terraria multiplayer on your phone follow these steps:

  1. Launch the game
  2. Select “Multiplayer”
  3. Choose the character from the list of characters that you would like to play online with.
  4. Now you have the option to choose “local” or “online” play and choose your preferred mode.

How do you make an online Terraria mobile server?

We’ve mentioned before that several prerequisites need to be met in order to host a Terraria mobile server. Those are generally related to your available hardware and internet connection.

First, your device needs to have at least 1 GB of RAM. This is important since the overall strength of your device’s hardware has a direct relation to the quality of the game you will experience. Second, you need to be connected to your WI-FI, network. Wi-fi network is generally more stable than your local phone’s internet connection.

If your network is slow, every single player who joined your game will be affected by this. The best host is the one with the most stable connection and the most powerful hardware.

To make an online Terraria mobile server follow these steps:

  1. Select multiplayer menu
  2. Got to the local tab and select “host” option
  3. The next screen will allow you to set the number of players in your world (maximum of 8) and a password.
  4. Now there is a possibility to forward this locally created multiplayer game to “online” but you will need to port forward the router from which you plan to host. The recommendation is to use the default port of 7777.
  5. To do that follow this guide on port forwarding. While some rules may apply, every device is in the end different.

Can PC and mobile play Terraria together?

PC and mobile cannot play multiplayer games together officially. However, android players can play with iOs players without any limitations.

Summary

And that’s pretty much it. As you can see Terraria mobile does have a multiplayer mode. You can host and join both local games as well as online games, although the latter is objectively more difficult to set up. Up to 8 players can join your world, and you can choose whether you will protect it with a password or not. If you decide to host a game on your mobile device both locally and online, make sure your device meets the minimum requirements.
